Bright Idea: Condoms That Glow When STDs Are Detected

This rave-worthy invention may become the fastest STD detection on the market.

Condoms – love them or hate them, we are all cognisant that there is a vital aspect in staying baby- and infection free. But it is very difficult to truly know if the person you are sleeping with has Sexually Transmitted Infections unless you get tested together and read each other’s results. And you may actually want to do that: according to the CDC, almost 20 million new STIs manifest every year just in the United States alone! In addition to this, approximately 25,000 women become infertile each year due to undiagnosed STDs.

These are worrying figures, but three tweens from London’s Isaac Newton College are determined to change this with a colorful solution.

At the Teen Tech Awards, a program that inspires students between the ages 10 to 18 to use their mind’s eye towards creating ideas for scientific and technical issues, Saanyaal Ali, 15, Nuaz Mawaz, 14 and Shirag Chah, 15, decided to take STI exposure to the next level with their cleverly named invention, S. T. Eye, Awarding them the top prize in the health category.
